Quit Smoking Today!

Tobacco is Classified as a “Gateway” Drug

The American Lung Association states that adolescents (12-17 years old) who reported having smoked in the past thirty days were three times as likely to use alcohol, eight times as likely to smoke marijuana, and twenty-two times as likely to use cocaine, within that time period than adolescents who have not smoked tobacco in the past thirty days.

Tobacco is classified as a “gateway” drug and therefore adolescent smokers are more likely to begin drinking alcohol and using illicit drug than non-smoking adolescents. While smoking tobacco the smoker will feel a “high” such as a tingly feeling, feeling light headed, and/or feeling more relaxed. This “high” does not last for long and as the smoker becomes addicted they are smoking so much that they do not feel any pleasure in smoking. Therefore this leads to the adolescent drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, using cocaine, and other illicit drugs.

10 Months later…Hi Jackie,

I just wanted to say another thank you for doing the work you do. I went out last night and many people around me were smoking and I didn’t feel the temptation to join them. I just wanted to share that I was appreciating you.
It’s lovely to be a non smoker. :)
Many thanks and blessings, Celina, Vancouver, Canada.

With hypnosis you can stop smoking easily and effortlessly. To a very large extent, smoking is psychological, so hypnotherapy attacks your smoking where it resides – in your mind. The hypnotherapist works on your inner mind and removes the source of the need to start smoking again. Best of all, with hypnotherapy there is no willpower required!

It is actually easy to stop smoking.

Up-date: December 2011 – Still FREE!

Before I met Jackie Maclean I was a ‘depressed, pack-a-day’ smoker and had been for 17 years!

I had spent the better part of 3 years trying to seriously quit, by the last year I was trying to quit twice a week. Nothing worked! I tried the patch, gum, pills, books, and sometimes several of these at the same time. I just couldn’t seem to quit. I was in tears and frustrated beyond belief.

I had heard of hypnotherapy from several of my friends, some had quit successfully and some had not, but I was at my wits end and wanted to give it a try. I saw Jackie’s web site and read all of the wonderful statements and decided to give her a call.

She set up an appointment with me for a free consultation and by the end of it I had made my appointment for my hypnotherapy. I have to say that I was nervous and doubtful and I smoked as much as I possibly could before my appointment. It has been almost 2 months since I walked out of Jackie’s living room and I have not smoked since!!

I quit smoking in just one session after having smoked for 17 years! I feel like I have my life back, I am no longer depressed, I exercise, and I eat well. Having hypnotherapy done with Jackie Maclean is the best decision I have ever made!

Thank you Jackie for helping me to break free!!

Sincerely,
Laura R

June 2011

Hi Jackie! I am writing you today because I am going away for the weekend and I am leaving very early tomorrow morning. This last week has been amazing! I can’t believe how much energy I have and it’s so nice to smell, well, nice for a change! The first 3 days were a little hard, my body was going through the physical withdrawal, thank you for the advice on breathing away the cravings, it works very well. Now that it has been a week, the cravings are not there, I just get these weird feelings sometimes at certain times of the day or when I am doing certain things. I am able to realize that at that moment I would usually be smoking and then I can easily breath it away.

I have taken your advice and I have joined the yoga studio, Evolution. I did my first hot yoga class the other night, I thought I might die, but man was it worth it! I felt so good after the class was over, sore, but good! I plan on doing at least 3 yoga classes a week, now that I have all this energy I’m sure it will be easy to do. I look forward to see how things will shape up for me into my second week of being smoke free. Until then, have a great week!

Hi Jackie,
I forgot to mention my doctor asked me about my smoking and was impressed by the fact I am no longer smoking and asked me how I did it. I told him I did it through you, he will be sharing my story with his other patience. To be honest no one including myself believed I could quite,  but I did thanks to you.

I wanted to let you know I feel great and I AM FREE  on this awesome bright sun filled morning. I am so thankful for the clarity, calmness and the creation of a new life of wellness.
Cheryl K (Quit Smoking after ONE session..)

Under hypnosis the hypnotist can find your deepest beliefs about smoking and replace them with supportive beliefs. Smoking is all about inner beliefs. Most people started smoking during their teenage years, at a time when your body was changing, you were transforming from a child to an adult, a time when you formed all sorts of new beliefs about yourself, who you are and what you can and cannot do. At that time perhaps you started using cigarettes to help you fit in, to be a rebel, to look cool, to get through new situations, and your mind formed powerful associations between smoking and being able to fit in, to assert yourself, be independent, to make friends and be treated with respect.

The first time you succeed at something, your mind forms strong bonds between what you are doing and how you are feeling. The result is an automatic link, a subconscious association, a belief that you cannot do one thing without the other. And if you form the belief that you deal with stress by smoking, or that you need cigarettes/cigars to make friends, or perhaps smoking makes you look cool, then you have a problem. Because your mind believes that giving up smoking means giving up the ability to make friends, or you will never feel ‘cool’ and accepted again. That is why smoking is so hard for some people to give up. Their mind fights desperately against it in order to not be friendless, to not look like a dork again.

That is what cravings are, your mind’s desperate attempts to get you to start again so that you will get back those benefits you need to be you. That is also why some people can just stop in a day – they didn’t form the automatic associations. Hypnosis works to remove these beliefs, to break the associations. Once these beliefs are gone so are the cravings.

MANY HAVE FOUND IT TO BE EASY & PAINLESS…

“I hated being who I had become, I smoked nearly 30 cigarettes a day for 18 years. I smoked doing everything and I thought that I would never quit. I was terrified of quitting and feeling sick from withdrawals and having to deal with all the horrible things associated with quitting smoking.

My Aunt told me how she had quit using hypnosis and I was intrigued… I had never tried to quit before I went for my session with Jackie.

The Session was relaxed and very nice, in fact I didn’t even feel like I was under hypnosis it was just me laying back relaxing. But what was amazing was when I woke from my ‘sleep-like’ state I was a non smoker and I will never smoke again.

It is quite incredible…I truly call it a miracle and I thank you again Jackie.”

How long does it take?

Most people give up forever after one session. Each person is different in terms of how long they have smoked, how many they smoke a day and why they do it. Each has a bearing on the issue but most people give up immediately and never think of a cigarette again.

A very small number of people start getting antsy after a few days and need a ‘boost’ – I am very happy to provide this at the complimentary follow-up session.  In my experience, most people are able to stop permanently and with no cravings or weight gain, and are happier and healthier from there on.  I credit this to the many tools and techniques they are provided with when they register for The Power Within ‘Tobacco FREE in ONE Session’ program.

A very powerful tool they learn is Self Hypnosis.  And…. Self Hypnosis is an incredible technique to practice because the Subconscious does not know the difference between what is real and what is vividly imagined!

A stop smoking session usually last about 2 hours.

Jackie,

One whole week without smoking, how great is that? I am doing good and feeling well.

I think that little booster you gave me mid week helped a lot. I am back to work fulltime next week with all my staff as well. I will be the only one in my department that does not smoke, so it will be a bit of a challenge to see how things are going. It is amazing that in one week’s time that I can take such a deep breath without coughing or choking. That is just enough incentive to keep on going. I have been around friends that are smoking and drinking and it does not bother me, I am already feeling so much better. Thank you very much. Talk to you next week.

Gratefully yours

Gerry

How does Smoking Hypnotherapy work?

People who smoke are not weak, or lacking in character, or natural addicts.

“The problem is in your mind, not in the cigarette.”

You can go ‘cold turkey’ – people do. You can grit your teeth, go live in a tent somewhere without cigarettes and after a week or so you are no longer smoking. But as soon as you get back to your familiar surroundings all the triggers are back. As soon as you hit the first bit of normal stress your own mind can betray you. If you believe that you cannot handle stress without a cigarette then the pressure will build until you take one. Going cold turkey gets rid of the physical addiction, but it does nothing about the belief system that surrounds the act of smoking.

The physical effects are not what keeps you smoking. After a few days all physical cravings are gone. If you start smoking again it is not because your body craves the nicotine. It is because a part of your mind believes that you cannot function without cigarettes and actually doesn’t want you to stop smoking.

It is your own mental beliefs that are the problem.

The STOP SMOKING Action Plan

To stop smoking you need to address three separate areas.

  • the addiction – the effect of the nicotine;
  • the false beliefs about smoking
  • the situations that act as triggers to get you to light up.

Hi Jackie

It has been a month since I smoked a cigarette! I could not be happier with the results we achieved and I am confident that I can use the tools you taught me to continue to be free from cigarettes.

No one knows better than I how hard it is to quit, I have tried many times over my life as a smoker to stop. I have spent a ton of money on patches, gum, inhalers, drugs with limited success at best.  Even after my husband was diagnosed with throat cancer I found a reason to start again.  I think I was sabotaging myself and my efforts, that part of me was actually protecting me the smoker.  When it got hard, I gave in.

Your program was different.  It was easy.  From the moment I walked out of your garden and got into my car I felt like a new person who really and truly didn’t want to smoke!  I kept waiting for the big cravings, the desperation – but I have had no strong desire to have a cigarette!  For a few days I did have a “whisper” in my mind to have a smoke but the thought would just be pushed away – I would take a big deep breath and the feeling would end.

The actual experience of being hypnotized was interesting – not anything like what I expected.  I was completely comfortable, never felt any loss of control (important for a type A like myself).  I was totally aware of the entire process, continued to have critical thinking and occasionally felt some cynicism – “this isn’t working” went through my head a few times, but it was working.  It is working – it is amazing!

I am sleeping well, and waking refreshed.  It is only one month and people are commenting on how fabulous my skin looks.  The tension that had lived in my neck for the past several years has melted away.  The relaxation skills I learned have already been, and will continue to be a huge benefit to me in every aspect of my life – I am feeling more focused at home and work, enjoying my days, feeling much less stressed.  I have gotten so much more from your program than “just quitting smoking”, as if that wasn’t enough.

Thank you so much Jackie.  I appreciate your commitment to helping others be healthy and happy, the follow up and support that you provided was exceptional.  Please feel free to share this email – I happily encourage others to take the leap.

All the best

Debbi

Follow up: 8  weeks later…

Hi Jackie

It has been a really nice summer so far, even these couple days of rain are lovely – the garden loves it as much as the sun.  We have had a couple getaats – both were wonderful, relaxing in the sun.

Thank you for thinking about me and sending the tips – feeling, looking, being healthy are my goals, I appreciate all the help I can get.  I have been drinking my tea – both the Calli and Fortune are wonderful.  I have also started eating differently – healthier, smaller portions, lots of veggie and fruit and proteins.

When I reorder my teas I will include some of the bars.

I am doing really well – being a non smoker is fabulous – I love it.  I have not felt this good in years!  I am so glad that I found you and made the decision to call you.

I have told a lot of people about what I have gained from our sessions – the smoking, better sleep, reduced stress, no more sore neck, more confidence, clearer thinking.

My husband and daughter are both amazed by the results and I hope that they will both come to see you shortly.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer,

Debbi

The Physical Habit

The physical addiction of nicotine is actually quite mild. People often have self fulfilling beliefs about how addictive tobacco is and how difficult it will be to give up. Therefore the first part of the therapy is aimed at correcting the client’s beliefs about how easy it is give up, and giving the client post hypnotic instructions about how they will feel after they throw away their cigarettes.

This is reinforced by teaching a replacement behaviour. Psychology studies show if an existing behaviour is associated with a new physical behaviour, the old behaviour rapidly goes into extinction, and the desire to do that behaviour fades away as well. So this part of the treatment consists of teaching you a new physical response to use any time the desire to smoke occurs. This new response gives you something to do with your hands, it takes the place of the cigarette until the link between stress and reaching for a cigarette is broken, and then the behaviour fades away with disuse.

Beliefs about smoking

The second part of the therapy focuses on your beliefs about the role that smoking plays in your life. Smokers often are convinced that they cannot relax without a cigarette, or that their best ideas only come when smoking, and other self justifying beliefs. In extreme cases clients believe that smoking defines who they are, and that quitting smoking somehow will diminish them. These beliefs are removed with a mixture of direct hypnotic suggestion and metaphor therapy.

Situational Triggers

For the long term smoker, all sorts of situations have become associated with smoking. Most smokers tell themselves that they enjoy a cigarette after a meal, with a drink, to give themselves a break. These are all highly charged situations and the smoker has created powerful conditioned responses to these.

Hypnosis is used to create new mental associations with meals, breaks, coffee, driving – whatever it is that the ex-smoker associates with smoking.

By using this three-part approach smoking gets beaten for ever.
